The ceremony can include how to look after the animal, how to best treat it (with respect) and a commitment where children and parents alike promise to care for, look after and love the animal in good times and bad. The ceremony includes a ‘contract' to be signed by the children, witnessed by the parents, with a framed copy supplied as a memory jogger when times get tough. Think of the Commitment Ceremony as a Marriage and a Naming ceremony combined for the four-foot addition to the family. Invite family and friends and four-foot's friends to a pet picnic afterwards.
